Usher Board
Church Theme: “A Church on the Move” Nehemiah 4:6
The Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church Ushering Ministry comprised of the Youth, Young Adults, and Seniors that are dedicated to advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are blessed with a great pastor, Reverend A. Glenn Woodberry, who is gifted in preaching and teaching the gospel over the state and nation.
Fundamentals of Ushering:
Being a church usher is a sacred responsibility. It requires the same dedication demanded of those who teach in church school or sing in the choir. Very often the usher is the first person the worshiper meets when entering the church.
First impressions are important. The attitude conveyed by words, facial expressions, and general deportment, as well as the appearance of the usher, can influence worship. In a significant sense, relationship with God establishes our relationship with one another to bond our church family.
Developing Christian workers for service as ushers requires teaching and on-the-job training. Christ’s disciples did not become Christian workers all at once. Jesus developed fishermen and a tax collector into Christian workers. He said to them, “Follow Me” (Matthew 6:5-13).
Being an usher and trained to fulfill the role and carrying out functions of an usher are only two; thirds of serving as an usher. Proper training gives you a positive mind-set to perform the task at hand. Training and practice will help you learn and master the art of greeting, meeting, seating, and helping other in our church.
Service as an usher will place you in a strategic location to witness. You will have the opportunity to show to show the love of Christ as you interact with members and visitors. Your mood will be caught by many who are entering the sanctuary for worship.
Qualities for Ushering:
- A willingness to learn
- Physically prepared
- Mentally prepared
- Spiritually prepared
Mission Statement: To serve in a manner pleasing to God with a focus on the needs of members and visitors during worship services. The Usher Ministry is courteous, kind and promotes orderly conduct during “Christ Centered” worship experiences promoting spiritual dignity as a doorkeeper and servant in Church Services.
Vision Statement: Building on a proud heritage and approaching the future of maintaining an organized atmosphere during worship services and fellowship in uplifting our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Psalm 84:10 “For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God; than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
“Let all things be done decently and in order” (I Corinthians 14:40).
Maintaining order and decency is one of the objectives of church ushering. Being servants of the church over which the Lord has made the Pastor the host, the ushers have the privilege of expressing the invitation, “Come unto me” (Matthew 11:28). For they are servants in the house of the Lord.
